Day Eighteen – Take Out Box

Day 17 - Take out

After a fantastic dinner, there is a few tasty morsels that I like to take home for later.  Enter in the Take Out Box, the old school Doggie Bag.

For me the Take Out Box is a blank canvas 🙂

Some people mark it with an initial, a certain way that it placed into the refrigerator, what the contents are inside, maybe the date, or a big X.  I think people think that a blank canvas is intimidating, like their family members or co-workers are going to judge what they write on the box.  It has even come down to some restaurants will actually write an identifier on the outside for you.  Why are we afraid of commitment?

For me I will sit there and draw on this wide open space.  I’ve not only have drawn block letters, landscapes, and even a uniformed scribble.  BUT there is always one thing that it has to have on it….you’ve guessed it.  There needs to be a DragonFly!  It is not complete until you see this final touch 🙂

So when I take my leftovers to work, I’ll know if anyone eats my food.  There is usually a murmur “There’s GG’s lunch. LOL”  To that I reply “guilty as charged”   🙂

What do you write on your Take Out Box?

Day Seventeen – Lint

Day 17 - Lint

I know that right now you are probably super grossed out that I spawned a DragonFly out of dryer lint.  But to my defense, Art is Art no matter the medium used 🙂

For some reason, I had a pile of lint on my dryer (I’m not sure where the trash can was when this happened).  But I remember years ago there was a lady who created The Last Supper out of dryer lint.  Since then every time I did laundry, I thought, how in the world could some one do this.  Hours and hours went into the laundry just to obtain the lint.

Nothing can compare to the 14′ master piece the lady created, but I’m glad that I finally scratched the itch to bring something to life with good ole dryer lint.

Day Sixteen – T-Shirt

Day 16 - T-shirt

One of my favorite past times is reviewing Pintrest.  I just love the ideas and creativity.  By just adding one DIY or craft into the search bar a person can be mesmerized for a very long time.  I’m not going to say that hours because I don’t want to incriminate myself 🙂

I typed in T-shirts and WOW did I ever have a field day.  Projects of all shapes and sizes.  You know I don’t discriminate 🙂  Anything from making a fitted Tee with ties and knots, bleach designs, T-shirt yarn, T-shirt Scarves, T-Shirt Quilts, T-Shirt Rugs…The list goes on and on and on and on.

A main thing that I noticed right off the bat was that when a T-shirt is cut, it holds its hem and never frays.  This is BRILLIANT!!!

This particular day, I decided to cut the neck out of a T-shirt that I wear to work out.  The neck line is constrictive and that is the last thing that you want when you are breaking a sweat.  So this idea started out as functional….But then here comes the FUNspiration.  I had a pile of the neck line.  Taking a closer look, I used the piece like a ribbon and ever so carefully shaped a DragonFly.

Tell me about your T-shirt Crafts.

Day Fifteen – Sugar Snapped

Day 15 - Sugar Snapped

Sugar Snap Peas have to be one of my favorite veggies.  It is also my dad’s favorite.  Maybe that’s why I like them so much 🙂

I bought some at the local farmer’s market and was just chowin’ down, not even paying attention.  Thank God my mindless snacking was actually good for me 🙂

Trying to de-string a couple of pods by hand wasn’t working out very well.  So, I decided to bite them and was a little upset that I was wasting the tips of the pea pod.

When I peered down I saw one of the tips looking at me in just the right way.  I thought to myself, that looks like antennas.

This DragonFly almost didn’t happen because, I was at the end of the bag.  If I’m not mistaken, what you see was all that was left over.  Good thing that I stopped when I did 🙂  I now present to you ‘Sugar Snapped’, my first veggie DragonFly creation.

Day Fourteen – Chew then Floss

Day 14 - fit chew

While I was eating some chocolate taffy the other day, I just couldn’t help myself.  Here I go again, this time molding a DragonFly.  What I thought was pretty creative was that I used a floss pick to make his markings.  LOL!   🙂  Sometimes it is just the simple things in life that make me so giddy!  As one of my friends says “You’re all Giddy Pants!”

Day Thirteen – Pipe Cleaned

Dragonfly #8One day, I was trying to organize my crafts, specifically my ribbon drawer.  There were some orphaned pipe cleaners floating around without purpose. (*Fun Fact* Pipe cleaners are also know as a chenille stem in the floral industry.)  There weren’t enough of them to actually have a home and this is where the FUNspiration begins.  I knew that I wanted craft to a DragonFly but didn’t have the desire at the time.

Then in comes a FaceTime call from a dear friend that I haven’t spoke to in awhile.  She was crafting her daughter’s birthday invitations and said, “I have to call GG because she loves crafting.”  So while while we were chatting, I was bending and twisting my little heart out with out mentioning a word.  By the end of the call I was giving the last tweaks to my creation.  When it was time to end the call, I showed her the DragonFly and she was like “you made that while we were talking?”

🙂 DragonFlies pop up when you least expect them sometimes.

Day Twelve – Snowflaked

Day 12 - SnowflakedThink back when you were a kid and would fold a piece of paper in half, in half, in half, in half, and one more time in half just to see if you could get in that last fold.  Then take a out a pair of sharp scissors and start cutting shapes like triangles, slits, half moons, squares, etc.  Making sure not to cut the paper in half and risk being left with two pieces.  Once your lap was full of confetti, it was time for the big reveal.  Slowly start unfolding each fold to discover a unique design, until at last the paper is opened again to one full sheet.  Not one creation was the same as the next.  Then the admiration begins, “Wow, when I cut like that, it turned into this.  Wait, that is the part there were I made that silly shape and it looks so cool.”  Oh remember when?

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I still do this 🙂  I received a catalog in the mail from my newest favorite store.   I just love The Container Store.  Flipping through the pages I saw many an organization tip, but each page was filled with colorful pictures.  Complete pages with mixed color and design.  The FUNspiration began to swirl in my head, thinking back to those grade school days was just the ticket.  I found a very busy design with bold colors, only to tear out the page and fold it in half.  I first cut out the DragonFly shape, then folded each long piece in half again – wings and body.  By using the Snowflake Style (fold and cut) method, the DragonFly turned out fantastic.  I call this process Snowflaking, not sure if that is a real thing, but it is now 🙂  Like I mentioned earlier, it is always a pleasant surprise!

Day Eleven – Scrappy Fleece

Day 11 - Fleece tie blanketRepurposing is one of my newest favorite things. A couple of months ago I made a fleece tie blanket for one of my nieces.  This particular niece loves shades of blue and this was the perfect fleece fabric.  Snip, slice, tie, knot, etc.  After a couple of hours, two pieces of rectangular fabric was transformed into a beautiful cuddly blanket.  Once it was folded nicely and placed into a box, wrapped beautifully and finished off with a gorgeous bow, the FUNspiration began.

Happy with what the blanket that had I just made, I gazed onto the floor where I was making my creation, into a day dream like state.  Staring back at me were very few scraps of beautiful shades of blues and greens, begging for a new life.  Then it came to me.  Instead of throwing them away I got the warm fuzzes to make a fuzzy DragonFly.  🙂

Day Ten – Pencil Doodle

Dragonfly #4 drawn with a wooden pencil on the back of a flyer. measures1/2"

What should I do with a sharpened old wooden #2 pencil when I no longer have to take scan-tron tests?  Should I find a random paper that’s lying around the house and marry to two together?   Hey why not draw a DragonFly!

This piece of FUNspiration was drawn with a wooden pencil on the back of a white paper flyer.  The DragonFly itself measures only a half a tiny inch (1/2″).  The flutter pattern* is about 1 1/2″.  Great things come in small packages!

* Special note – I like to draw a flight pattern for DragonFlies.  It usually consists of a spiral pattern 🙂  It gives them more personality.

Day Nine – Light Up My Life

Day 9 - light up my lifeA while back, I went on vacation back east to visit family.  I stayed in this super cute Bed and Breakfast in Flemmington, New Jersey.  It was a two story Victorian-esque house with so much personality.  Since we were there in the off season, we had the house completely to ourselves.  We hung out in the library and warmed by the fireplace.  The next morning we were treated to an amazing breakfast that I later asked for and was sent the recipe in the mail.

The halls were adorned with these beautiful Tiffany style wall sconce lights.  The DragonFlies were blessing my way and I knew that I was in the right place 🙂  Our stay was just easy, the owners were very helpful showing us around then scooted along their merry way and left us in the most comfortable setting.  Wow…this is definitely a bucket list item!
